Vacation fish loss

Hi...... I just got back from vacation and my favorite cory was dead and a snail. I am so sad but why did this happen? I put in a 10 day feeder and my ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate are all 0 PPM

i'm sorry for your loss. I know sometimes the feeder blocks can actually constipate your fish and they die from that, but your snail died as well. I know that my tank spiked to 84 degrees (we are both in new york) the other day when it got hot out..perhaps your temperature rose enough and the stress killed them?

no nitrates? doesn't sound like the aquarium is cycled and/or your test kit isn't any good.
Those feeder cubes/blocks whatever are extremely high in nitrates and without cleaning, you should have nitrate readings of some sort.

well, my tank doesnt have any nitrates either and i shook the heck out of the testing bottle. I have a ton of lava rock in it so i think that has something to do with it, so maybe it has something to do with his decorations as well. Do you have lava rock in your tank?

The only reason I can think of that you wouldn't have nitrates is if you have live plants in your tank. ? Hate to hear about your fish loss

My snail died because he got stuck in my filter and I was not there to get him out. As for my test kit I have an API master test kit and I am going to PetSmart today so I can get my water tested to see if it agrees with my testkit

I just tested my water again for nitrate but this time I whacked the bottle on a table and shook it up and I got a reading..... 10 ppm
