Lost 2 of my 3 fish last night

I'm going to buy an API test kit after work tonight, I'll give you readings then.

Anyway, I've got a tiny 10g and I had a upsdie down catfish, dalmatian molly, and a rainbow shark.

Last night before I went to be the molly and catfish weren't being themselves. They were just laying around, not moving much.

When I fed them they started moving around and acting normal again so I went to sleep.

Woke up this mornig and they were stiff as a board floating at the top.

Tank has been cycled for about a month, only thing I can think of thats different is there was some algae growth but I cleaned most of it off the decor.

Shark seems fine, nothing wrong with him that I can see. One of his fins looks like it has some dis coloration to it. Almost like a green tip all the way around the fin.

I did a 60% water change after removing the dead fish, what else should I do?

Perhaps the red tailed shark bullied the other fish?

Hello Xathine. I hate to hear about your fish loss. Let us know what your readings are as soon as you're able to. You may want to reconsider housing a Rainbow in a 10g tank. They can be very territorial and need a lot of space to grow and swim, growing to 6 inches or better. Best of luck and keep us updated.

I don't think so, although I won't rule it out.

They always seemed to get along great. Actually the shark and the upside down catfish shared a cave together. I checked them both for nips on there fins and stuff - didn't see anything.

I've never once seen them fight. All 3 fish were babys. The catfish wasn't even 3/4" long, molly was probably getting about an 1" and the shark 1.5-2".

Yeah, it was a noobie mistake. Mislead by my LFS. I've been trying to get a bigger setup going, and this weekend I am suppose to pickup a 75g tank.

They were all babys, seemed to get along great. Was hoping they could play nice until I was able to get a bigger tank setup for them.

Good morning. Congrats on trying to get your fish into a larger home. I think you and your fish will be much happier. It's been my experience over the years the larger the tank the easier it is to maintain.

Your Nitrites are a bit high. I have a feeling that your tank hadn't completed the original cycle. I would suggest a 50% water change to bring them down. You might have to do this for a few days until they read 0 also. Add some Prime or Amquel +. I use the Amquel + it removes chlorine, reduces ammonia (which your reading of 0 is good), nitrites and nitrates for a 24 hour period until it's time for another water change and it will not harm the cycle. Nitrates are good at 5-10.
