is it ok to use ...

a metal fork to hold down things in the tank, like zuccini? I came across the idea that using "metal" containers for growing green water, or for holding tanks etc... is bad because of some kind of leeching from "stainless" or certain metals into the water that is toxic to the fish. I also read about people who use screws to hold driftwood down. Does anybody have an opinion or fact related to this metal fork, or just metal in general?

thanks

Oh I hope it is okay. I have a shrimp fork for holding zuccini in my molly tank. I will be sure and check back...I may have to take that fork out.

I wouldnt ever use metal/aluminum in a tank ....lead i hear is ok, but not positive on that..but metal/aluminum will change the water chemistry dramatically and could cause some major issues..

If I'm not mistaken, plant weights are LED. I've read not to use metal in an aquarium.

how about a plastic fork, and you stick it right into the gravel? guess i'll put those metal forks away.

i think that would work because i have seen petstors sell plastic decor for tanks but im not 100% sure.

I use all plastic bag clips (the kind that snap together) then tie it to a rock with a piece of string. That way it is weighted down with the rock. Or, I have also used plastic mesh (like what onion bags or fruit comes in) and put the veggie and a couple of rocks inside a section of the mesh and tie it shut on the both ends. The fish can get to the veggies through the mesh, but it is enough to hold them under water.
