My jacks

Hi all,
i got a question .... my jack dempseys are starting to get very aggressive towards the other fish in the tank ... is there a reason for this ..... the water temp is 78

jacks are generally aggressive towards other males of the same species, and are aggressive/territorial when breeding, so that maybe why, the temp will not effect them as they are quite tollerant of a range of temps

JD's are a generally aggressive species. Since they are in a tank with other aggressive species, there is a chance that there will be fights.
It may also be that they have paired off & are going to breed.

I agree its normal for dempseys....but the fish you have should be able to hold their own...providing a cave like structure if they are a male/female combo, will give them a place to spawn and call their own

They're most likely a breeding pair then.

females have alot more speckles and color on her gill plate and less on her body where as males are opposite.....males anal fins and dorsal fin is more pointed also....

I agree with ben...the two are a pair !! see the differences of their gill plate coloring and the under belly area? males are more drab underneath but more speckled on their body....
