Mbunas with stingray?

I'm sorry everyone, i know i'm probably getting annoying with these posts of "cichlids with ______" but please bare with me. According to a little bit of my research the stingrays can be kept in anywhere from 7.0-8.0 pH due to their ability to adapt to water conditions (except ammonia) so the pH doesn't seem to be a problem. the only concern i have is the cichlids not being happy about having it in the tank and since a small wound to a stingray can be fatal i don't want to take the chance. anyone have any experience with this or heard of anyone keeping the two together?

I dont think anyones annoyed ..thats what the forum is for
but.....ph isnt always the issue with fish that you want to keep together....its the compatibility with fighting ...your mbunas and other africans, do not play well with others...only their own...combining anything other than african cichlids with other africans, will ask for disaster no matter what ph is required

Right i understand. It's just that you hear of people keeping the oddest things with their cichlids and them getting along just fine and it is so tempting to try you know? but taking a $60 chance is a little expensive.

I don't know if there are any freshwater stingrays suitable for a 55g even if stingray/mbuna was a safe combination.

Even the so-called "teacup stingray" can reach up to 14" in diameter... a 55g tank is only 12" wide. Stingrays in general do better tanks with a large footprint.

i'm with mathas, i wouldn't suggest getting a stingray unless you plan on getting a HUGE tank. they are really neat though, so if you can get a huge tank make sure you take lots of pictures!

Stingrays also eat a little slower than cichlids so it might not get enough to eat.
a friend had one in his store and it would stalk ghost shrimp then eat them. If a mbuna had been in there the shrimp would have been gone before the stingray had a chance to find it.
