I have some and it says to remove all carbon (active) so I removed the filter cartridge but NOT the bio-wheel. Was this the right thing to do? (This is my 3 experience with ICH and its just wearing me down )

yes it was.

do you have a thermostat heater? if so try SLOWLY turning up the heat to about 85 degrees (1 degree every hour) and leave the heat there for one week or two to kill the ich (ich dislikes warm water) and then bring the heat back down the same way and make a water change (use the gravel vacuum to clean up any dead ich spores). This way, you avoid adding harmful chemicals to your water and you kill ich the natural way.

ah bummer I cant, it's only in a 5 gal so its just a basic (plug-n-play as I call it) mini heater.
