Cichlids in a 20 Gallon

I'd like to get two or three of the biggest kind I can. I have a 20 gallon cycled and everything. Its dimensions are 24 width, 12 length and 16 height. Also, FYI I am only going to keep Cichlids, no other types of fish. I already know about care and everything and the tanks all ready, I just need to know what the largest kind I could get in here is. (I do very frequent water changes) Thanks!

no cichlids other than maybe convicts or shell dwellers can fit in a 20 gal and thrive..of course they will survive for a time, but its cruel to put them in such a small space ..they are territorial by nature and some are very agressive...

You have two threads going on the same subject...Cichlids in a 20 Gallon

I would agree with Shawnie. Also I'm just wondering what size tank your convict is in??

Edit:..Also is this 20 gallon a 20 gallon long or 20 gallon tall, If you don't know you could give us your dimensions and we could tell you. that will make a big difference in what you can stock.

I was advised against keeping cichlids in a 29g so I am going to say putting them in a 20g would be even worse.

If your tank is a 20 gallon LONG, this will not work for a 20 gallon tall you can use these cookie cutters. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/article...cutter_20g.php
But you have a convict in a 10 gallon and that really isn't big enough. I would suggust taking care the the fish you have now before getting more...Either find him a new home or put him in the 20..But if you get your convict taken care of these cookie cutters might be of some help to you.
