What kind of fish am I looking for?

I'm getting a new 55 gallon in about a week which is going to be freshwater and i want some different kind of fish not just the some old tetras danios guppys mollys and so on you get my point...

To make it a little more clear to you i was thinking something like an oscar but i did my research and found out i will only be able to put one oscar in a 55 gallon and nothing else so thats a no no

and then i was thinking a cichlid tank but ehhh i dont really want one

Tell me some cool fish that can go together in a 55 or maybe if you have a 55 or bigger tell me what you have in it and i can get some ideas

I'm planning on planting the aquarium but if its better off to just keep fake plants with the fish you guys mention i wont plant it i just want some different fish not just those 2 inch colorful ones i mentioned earlier (maybe some eels??)

idk but START SAYING SOME NAMES! please and thank you. hope you understand what im trying to say

It all depends what you like. Try looking up kribensis, Keyholes,Cockatoo and Bolivian Rams. These are all great looking Dwarf Cichlids that can be kept with community fish. There are a lot of great looking dwarf Plecos as well. Hatchetfish are a bit different, as are Butterfly fish. The list is endless.............

Hi Chris,
my suggestion would be to go to the fish profile page of Fishlore and start going through the list checking out the photos and requirements of fish that may interest you. There are so many fish to pick from the list there. You mentioned you didnt want cichlids and you dont want the mollies, platy guppies etc etc. I would also advise that you check the pH requirements of the fish as well as compatible water temperature needs.
If you can round up a group of fish you may like to add to your tank you can come back to this post with the list and other members can let you know their opinion on the list.
You can look at my aquarium siggie below to see what I have in my 55g tank.

I keep angelfish in a community tank and IMO it's gorgeous. They love the plants and a pair get along great with the others in my 55gal. I have a few yoyo's and mollies and oto's but you could easily add some cory's if that's your fancy. I'm not sure about the others, sorry.

imo that should be a good mix that well suit a planted aquarium, just remeber to keep hiding spaces for both species, bogwood for the plec maybe. the male cockatoo can be aggressivly territorial, but with peacefull tankmates, like the angel, yellow dwarf and plaecs it should be fine. word of warning, some plecs can grow to be huge. do not know about key holes

i think the required water chemistry is the same for all of those fish as well, perhaps a more experienced member can confirm but i think its ph7, 24-28C calm water

all right well from all the other information i have gathered these should be fine together but correct me if im wrong

1 sengal bichir
2 angelfish
3 blue acaras
What other fish would get along with these? and would there be any brawls in the tank so far with these fish in it? The water chemistry these fish need are compatible. as far as water they would be able to live comfortably in the same tank (according to information i found about them) i looked up the ph levels water hardness and temperature and there all in the same range... so yea let me know anything else about them or any other fish that can go with them

There probably will be brawls. If 2 of the Acaras pair up then they'll probably attack the other one. Angels can get terriotorial when they pair up too. With Cichlids you don't know what you'll get until you see them together.

Oh, and I wouldn't keep the Bichir with Angels either. I think a 55gal is too small for a Bichir.
