whats going wrong with my pleco

Can anyone help me with a question regarding my pleco (code name Big Boy).

I have had him for 5yrs and just recently he has started to bend upwards from the beginning of his tail and he looks quite bent and awkward when he swims.
I have tested the water and everything is fine so what is going on.

Can anybody offer any clues as I do not want to lose him.

Many thanks
Kim.

Hi Welcome to Fish Lore

I'm really sorry your pleco isn't feeling well. He's lived a good long time with you.
Have you checked your water parameters, is so what are the readings for ammonia nitrites and nitrates? Have you added anything new to the tank recently? Is there anything he could have hurt himself on?

Sorry for all the questions, the answers might help the members figure out what's going on with him.

Also, Fish Lore is a public forum and easily accessed through search engines. For your privac, you might want to consider changing your user name to something other than your e-mail.

Good luck, I hope he improves quickly.

Many thanks to you Lucy for your reply.

I am going to take a sample of the tank water to my local pet shop/fish tank suppliers within the next couple of days to get it checked out properly just to be on the safe side. As to your other thoughts, I have recently taken out all of my ornaments ( bridge, castle, shipwreck etc) but left the large boulders for him to graze away on, so there was nothing in the tank for him to hurt himself.
I will plod on and hope he recovers.
Once again many thanks for your help and advice and I have changed my log in name (great idea).
Have a great day
Kim.

Hi, Kim, and welcome! If you take your water to be tested, make sure you watch them do it and ask for the exact numbers. Pet stores are notorious for giving out bad advice and false information, so be wary of what they tell you. I hope you figure out what is going on with your pleco soon
