troubleshooting: picktis Catfish

Hey all.. I can't sleep so I thought I'd come here and trouble shoot a problem from zigmiester. she has two tanks with identical water parameters. 60gal is a community tank. 58 gal houses 4 juvinile angel fish. I suggested that she has been over feeding the tanks and suggested a catfish for some cleanup duty after meal times. So we purchase 2 seemingly healthy pictis catfish. add one to each tank, the fish in the 60 gal community tank is doing great, but the fish in the 58 gal angel tank has been dead the next morning. she has gone through two or three now. We made sure to provide the catfish with a hidey hole to get away from the angels in case they wanted to bully him. but seriously... anyone have any idea what could be going on?

her PH is 7.4 regularly... she treats with prime, I think her nitrates are around 5, but they start out that way with her tap water. Tanks have both been up and cycled for over a year now.

What is a 'picktis Catfish'? What other fish where in the tank?

pictus catfish like to be in with others of their own..I kept loosing them also until I bought a pair..and they need at least an hour to acclimate to a new tank...

also wondering what your ammonia and nitrites are? maybe you hit a mini cycle as those buggers are super sensitive ...goodluck!

hmm.. I didn't know that they liked to be in pairs....
that is an interesting thought. The one pictis cat I saw added swam around kinda franticly for a while.

She had successfully kept a pictus cat before, in that particular tank.

pictus will be totally spiratic at all times..they never sit still ..thats how they roll
but again, takes a good hour to acclimate by adding some of the tank water a bit at a time to his bag...
