Need help netting a fish

Well my 10 gallon is slowly reaching the end of it's "generation"...the fish are all getting a bit old. I have 1 zebra danio left, and he's so lonely There are 5 others in my 55 gallon, so I want to move him and make him comfortable!

The problem: That slippery sucker is *fast*. I have tried off and on all week to net that guy and move him, but he is just too quick. It also doesn't help that a majority of that tank is planted, so he is hiding inbetween the leaves and I can't get to him without uprooting stuff.

Any tips on catching this guy? I don't want to keep stressing out the fish by trying to catch him all day.

you could get a bigger net, or hang the current net in the water and put food in it and when the little bugger goes in you nab him. other than that you could get both hands wet and corral him into a corner.

Heh it seems I spoke too soon :P After I made the thread I went once again and decided to try tricking him a bit.

I emptied the tank 50% (It's a 10 gallon so, not that difficult, heh)...then I found this real clear plastic container I had stuck it in there towards the corner, and waited...eventually the guy made his way to the corner and I "closed the door" of sorts, pressing the container against the glass....he had no way out :P

And now he's all safe in his new home...he immediately fled to the other 5 danios in the 55 gallon...seems to enjoy all the new space and friends! Thanks for the suggestions though wolfgang lol

Hi Phishies,
I rarely use a net, I just don't like them.
You could try holding a large plastic cup in one hand and as you try to net him, herd him toward the cup, you can probably get him to swim right in.

If he knew he had a bigger home and friends waiting, he'd be happy to go!

Glad you got him over. I find large plastic cups to be good too.

Yeah I know, I wish they could understand us :P I was standing there cursing and going "Come on, you're moving to a home 5x the size of this one! With friends!" Sad :P

one of the easier ways I have learned is if you have a big and small net, you chase the fish into the big one..
It works well...
