Which should I get?

Since Spot(male plakat betta) died last night due to a heater malfunction, I was thinking of putting in the currently empty 5 gallon:
1) a small school of neons in there
2) another betta
3) a dwarf puffer, or two
4) a small grow out tank for my livebearer fry
I don't know which one to choose, so I am turning to you guys for help.

Hi Tom,
Im so sorry to hear about Spot. Ive lost fish to heaters myself. If I had the extra 5g tank I would love to see a school of neons in it, they are so pretty when schooling together. But having a grow out tank if you expect fry, is a great idea too.

I have a bunch of fry just roaming around in my 36 gallon and some in a net.

I'm sorry to hear that you lost Spot! I'd go with option 3, a Dwarf Puffer.. 2 of them if you're wanting to do extra water changes for them.

I decided to get a wild caught pair of the Peacock Betta(Betta Imbellis) and will be putting them in the 5 gallon.

Tom, I am so sorry to hear you lost Spot....it is always so devastating. No suggestions for you, but I am sure you will come up with something cool as usual.
