Hi Jacko, check this site for good information on the flying fox. I saw one on friday at a LFS and thought they looked like a very large oto fish. There is some specific information on them that are important to know before purchasing one of these guys.
some of which are:
  • They belong to the group of Cyprinids.
  • FF sometimes called a 'false siamese algae eater.
  • max length is: 6 inches
  • adults are very territorial and aggressive to its own kind.
  • pH: near 7
  • temp: 75-79*
  • minimum tank size: 20g
  • does not breed well in captivity
  • can be kept in a community tank but may chase other fish viciously from its territory.
  • there should not be more than one adult FF in a tank.
there is more information on the site listed below...

thanks for that, at the lfs they suggested that they could be an option instead of ottos but i think maybe not in a smaller tank (15g)

Jack.
Very smart thinking. They don't usually do well with the other fish in a small tank.

Not quite true. They are alot like barbs in that they do best in odd numbered groups, or groups of 3 or more depending on tank size. In my 90 gallon f/w I have 5 full grown adults that aside from the occasional chase, do not bother each other. Tank size is important with this species as the larger the tank, the more territory space available per individual
