Need good community fish ideas

I have recently lost 2 female guppies so now our tank will be emptier. I am deciding against adding more guppies since from the 8 I have bought I only have 3 left, and this is from 2 different LFS. I'm Guppy-Jaded now and want to stay away from them. My tetras have never been a problem.

in my 30G:I have 3 female guppies, 3 cardinal tetras

I will be adding 3 more either cardial or neon tetras and 2 cory cats slowly.

What other non agressive fish would look nice with this? I don't want to breed so if livebearers are added I will only do one gender.

i'm not sure what the shipping would be, but Dino's got some beautiful fancy gups up for sale if you wanted to give them another try.. the local breeders could be putting out bad stock and causing all the LFSs to have weak gups.

platy males are peaceful. rasboras would be a nice addition too. maybe some glass cats?

guppies scare me now!!!

We went & got 2 albino cory's. Out of all the pretty ones they had she wanted the ones that creep me out. No neon or cardianal tetras at all to finish our school. She was facinated by the flying foxes but i knew nothing about them & said no, good thing too since I read up on them after we got back home

The LFS had a ton of other fish, lots said community fish, on their description. I'll have a look at the play's they did have a few types there. Wouldn't all males fight? Or is that only when the male to female ratio is off? You have some nice ones in your pictures!

Re: Need good community fish ideas

sadly a lot of these chains carry really weak guppies -- you only need to be scared of the radioactive mutant guppies living in the sewers! we've been a bit hesitant to try them, but if we do go with gups for the 30g tank we'll get them from Dino. I'd trust his stock more than the LPS and the fancy gups are stronger than regular ones i think.

anyway.. those albino corys will grow on you i think.. they're a great addition to a tank.

i think a tank of all males would be fine. they'll get a little grumpy with each other now and then, but even a tank of all females has that happen. Like you were thinking, platy fighting is mostly from a off-balance of males & females. the males are a little smaller and tend to live longer than females.

who said life was fair?!

They sure are industrious little things, digging around then whipping up the the surface or take a ride on the bubble wall, then straight back to work. They are fun to watch but when i throw in an algae wafer, the guppies & tetras tend to eat off it first, then the corys do cleanup. I threw one in before bed and it was gone this am

get something that will be like a "centerpiece" like i have my angel who is bigger than the rest and stands out more he makes the tank seem more elegant
