| computer novice but kept fish 25 years I have kept freshwater fish for over 25 years but have recently found a problem I,ve never seen before. there is a white powder that looks like flour or talcum powder only on the surface, the water is clear the fish are healthy, they eat it when they are fed with no ill effects. it looks like a mould or mildew problem, but nothing works to get rid of it, I have a friend in the trade and he has seen nothing like it either, we have tried everything we can think of without success. can any one help. It is a slightly acid amazon type 4ftx2ft with a few other various fish, I know it is healthy as I have a black ghost knife fish and other sensitive fish and they show no problems. I hope there is someone out there who can help. love and thanks Last edited by Lucy; February 21st, 2010 at 09:13 AM.

Could it just be surface scum? is there an airstone to move around the surface of the water ? also, sometimes the conditioners we use will build up without the surface being agitated |

| as you can obviously tell I havnt got a clue, so thanks for removing whatever you did so I dont get loads of spam [ I dont even know what you've done, or what I did wrong ] I wont be doin any banking or buying for quite a while. Thanks again for what you did for a total stranger. look after yourself your one of the good ones.
thanks but its not that simple. I've got 2, 4 inch air stones and the power filter moves the surface. its definately some sort of fungus, but just on the surface, it looks like a handfull of talcum powder has been thrown onto the water. thanks anyway Last edited by Butterfly; February 21st, 2010 at 09:50 AM.

Everyone starts some where, in my opinion this is the best place to start. Many members have their first experience with not only fish but computers and forums here.
We'll be happy to help you along the way.
Spammers scan the internet with programs (bot) that can recognize an e-mail address (@ whatever) and store it. They then automatically send out spam to those addresses (ads, scams etc) |

| Hello Gordius, and Welcome to FishLore. I wanted to ask a few questions about your tank. I love a challange. So how many fish are in your tank and what species. In your aquarium info you said you didnt need water conditioners or test kits...may I ask why? Also your info says your water is slightly acidic, whats the exact number. Sorry for bombing your with a million questions...this sounds very interesting to me. |
