Could someone confirm there's no reason not to heat this tank up (ich)?

Hi all,

I have cardinals, a female betta, a bristle-nosed, and three amano shrimp in my tank. The cardinals have ICH, and I have read a lot here on the heat treatment. I have decided to give it a try, and am going to raise the temp to 86 degrees. I looked around the net for the heat tolerances for all my species, and there seem to be at least couple sites/posts recommending heat treatments for each of them.

Can anyone give me a good reason not to turn up the temp? In other words, confirm the fish can tolerate these temperatures?

The other alternative is QuickCure. I fear for the shrimp if I use that, although I have read it is shrimp-safe.

Hellof Friendlyfish,

If the shrimp can survive the high temperatures then I don't see any issues with raising it to 86. (I haven't kept shrimp so wait for more responses on this) Leave it there for a full 2 weeks. Do 2 gravel vacuums each week to remove the spores that fall from the fish and into the substrate.

Warmer waters requires more oxygen so an additional air supply line may be needed if you aren't currently using one. (air pump and stone)

Best of luck and please keep us posted.

Hi all, upon further investigation a couple websites say amano shrimp die when exposed to temperatures higher than 82 degrees F. Anyone with experience with this issue?

Last time I had ich, I removed the shrimp, put them in my ten gallon, raised the temperature to 82, then treated with QuickCure. All the cysts were gone within a few days. I think that I didn't work as well as I thought, because only a few weeks later, the ich is back. I wanted to do the heat method this time, but I'm considering taking out the shrimp, doing the heat, AND doing the QuickCure.
