How do I know when it's time to euthanize a fish?

I hate to even use that word but my blue ram is just not getting any better. I've been treating him for a day with Mardel maracyn two and he is getting worse. Now he is almost unable to move and just lists back and forth from side to side. His breathing is very very shallow. How do I know when I should not allow him to suffer anymore? He's currently in a hospital tank. It looks like he has popeye but I'm treating him for popeye and it's not getting better. =( I don't want him to suffer...

Ugh! I know how you feel Knight!

Not an easy decision, whatever you decide to do is fine!

Personally, I've thought about this topic and made a decision for myself (no one else). My reasoning is why should it be any different between people and any other life? We are given every last chance to recover against all odds and you know you'd fight til the end, not matter what. Why not give other life forms the same option?

So sorry about your ram.

Good morning,

So sorry to hear that your fish isn't improving. Do whatever your gut instincts tell you. If you do decided to euthanize the fish here is a link that may help you. Refer to post #3 in the link below:
Humane Fish Euthanasia - how?

A link on Popeye:

Best wishes!
Ken

This morning he was barely clinging to life, so I decapitated him very quickly so he felt nothing. It was extremely difficult for me to do, but i know I wouldn't want to live like that.... Reminds me of the time I had to hold my cancerous dog in my arms while the vet put her down. That was also hard. Sometimes it is the most difficult thing to do the right thing...

Good morning Knight!
So sorry to hear about the Ram. You did all you could.

Rams are considered sensative fish and prefer to go into well established tanks. Your poor guy was shipped from a breeder, to a distributor, to Your fish store where you bought him.

You did all the best you could.
