I've had half my fish die in 24 hrs!!

I have a 30 gallon tank that has been set up for over a year. My readings are always within range and my fish seem to be happy and healthy, I have silver dollars that have been alive for over 3 years in this tank now. Last week I got a new green puffer because I lost my old one to a busted tank and the cat ate him. Two days ago I bought a blue gourami and some feeder snails for my puffer. Last night things seemed fine, everyone ate ok and seemed active with the exception of one tiger barb. I wake up today and find two tiger barbs dead, two on the brink of death(that have since died), and my poor puffer struggling as well. They all had cloudy eyes, even the living ones, but didn't look like pictures i've seen of pop-eye. My nitrate has spiked, my water is a little cloudy and i'm freaking out. I'm afraid I'm going to lose everything. Please help.
ammonia 0.25 PPM
nitrite 0 ppm
Nitrate 80+ ppm
pH 6.8

welcome to fishlore!!!
im sorry for your losses tho
using stress zyme is probably keeping the tank uncycled...stress zyme eats up the good bacteria and isnt aquatic...which means unless you use it weekly, the bacteria are going to die.....ANY amounts of ammonia/nitrites means its NOT cycled.......at this point I would stop using the stress zyme, and see if you can find one of these in your area http://www.fishlore.com/fishforum/aq...ling-fish.html as you are going to have to do daily water changes until the tank recycles itself...one of those 3 will keep the fish safe ....also, 80ppms for nitrates is huge and water changes with gravel vacs will help that as well..good luck!

Ok....I'll give that a try. Thanks so much!! Curious though, I haven't used stress zyme in months. has the tank just stopped cycling? why would that happen?

thats expected when you stop using stress zyme...its now going through the proper cycling without it giving you false readings that its cycle when you use stress zyme ......just daily water changes with one of the products to detoxify will get it done....but it will take time......goodluck!

Welcome to FishLore!!
I'm sorry about your fish.
Great info from Shawnie. I found when my ADF developed cloudy eye, that my nitrates were pretty high.
Water changes to get the levels under control helped.
Best of luck!
