When I could google no more I took a picture of it.....

1. Describe the problem
So I noticed this a couple hours ago. A couple of his fins have a small bit of white on it. I wish I knew what it was and how to treat it. I'd hate to put him in a jar but if I am to save the rest of the fish ........

does it look like salt? It might be ICH.

Looks like maybe fungus.
You can try some extra water changes, extra stress coat, garlic guard and vita-chem.
If it looks to be getting worse, you might want to put him in a Q tank and medicate.
Fungus Eliminator or Maracyn and Maracyn-Two in case it's bacterial.

Let's see what others have to say.

Are we talking about that tiny bit of white on the tip of his fin?

yes the tiny white tips on the fin.

I was thinking maracyn but I hesitate to medicate.

Personally I'd just say to keep an eye on it. It could just be a ray he's regrowing... Does the white look slimey? or have any sort of texture that is different the the surrounding fin and rays?

I'm really hesitant to medicate. If it looks to be spreading then I think it would be more of a concern... right now if only sort of looks like damage...

Jut my two cents.

id keep an eye on it also....if he went through the cycle process in the tank, it could be effects of that.....keep his water nice and clean and add some extra stress coat+ and some fresh garlic to his foods.the garlic will entice him to eat and also build up his immune system....I wouldnt medicate just yet either ...especially where hes come through a newly cycled tank

How exactly do you get him to eat more garlic. I soaked his pellets in garlic before and he ate them but he won't eat those now . Blood worms though he'll eat them! I'm holding off on the blood worm diet as I use them as more of a snack/treat for him.

He shouldn't be too stressed because I used Prime the whole way through.

AND the white is doubled this morning it looks like a fuzz sock that is fit over his fins.

Likely fungus then
Do you have a small rubber maid container?
You can set that up as a temporary QT while you treat him. Just at a heater and a filter (no carbon) to run on for the course of the treatment.
A word of warning is that it could potentially be a calumnaris strain as well which the fungus cure tabs won't work on. Hopefully someone knows what a good combo for him could be.

I am not the kind of guy that likes medication even for myself so I don't like dosing my tank either. The fuzz was getting worse and climbing up his fins. so I put him in a small salt bath and when i came back from the bathroom the fuzz was gone !!!!! This is FANTASTIC ! I've now given him 3 baths in 3 hours each for only 5-7 mins. he's more lively and swiming around more ..... Sooooo Strange. I am going to keep monitoring and watching ALL my fish for anything strange.

Thank you all for your input.
