Fin Rot vs Ragged Tail Fin

I was just wondering what the difference is and how I am to know which one it is so that I can go about treating it?

Thanks!

It looks like fin rot to me. Keep the water extra pristine & add some garlic-guard. He should be fine

Is garlic juice okay? I'm not sure where I get garlic-guard.

Yeah, garlic from a jar of diced garlic will be fine.

Thanks!

How can you tell the difference between fin rot and ragged tail fin? So I know what I am looking for if I ever see something like this again.

If it happened fast it's usually fin rot, there's really no reason to have a ragged fin. If it is, it may have been torn or bitten & still needs to treated. Also, the black edge around the fin usually points towards fin rot.
