Dwarf Gourami - Lesion/Ulcer

Any ideas what may be causing this?

The fish been in a hospital tank for 2 weeks now with no improvement. The fish is active and eating fine but the 'hole' seems to be getting slightly larger. The fish does not have any other symptoms as of yet - color good as well.

I have tried salt baths, methylene blue baths, 10 days of Kanamycin, and am now on day 3 of trying a Maracyn 1/2 combo. So far there has been no improvement!

I'm guessing either Iridovirus or possibly Myco? I have doubts because of the lack of other symptoms.

Anyone ever see anything like this and have any luck treating? Thanks!

Water Params: 0 ammonia 0 nitrite 5-10 nitrate in all tanks. 25-40% PWC's at least weekly.

Hello Kiv. Sorry to hear that your Gourami is ill. Seems we've been seeing a good bit of illness lately with this species.

Here is a link you may find helpful in diagnosing. Note: GRAPHIC photos of fish disease:

Best wishes!

Yes I have seen those pics... I do not see anything like the 'clean' hole in my fish. I suppose some of the 'bacterial' infections are close, but this seems to be resistant to treatment with antibiotics so far.

If its mycobacteria, then that may explain the antibiotic resistance...near impossible to get rid of. Just as a warning, I wouldn't handle the fish without gloves since there's a small chance, since some myco species can be zooenotic, it can spread to humans (ever heard of fishermen ulcers?).

Whatever it is, hope he gets better. Just keep the water pristine, maybe add some vita-chem and make sure he keeps eating.

In 3 weeks the fish had no response to 4 dif antibiotics as well as Potassium Permanganate, Meth Blue, salt baths. Decided to euthanize.

I'm really sorry you had to make the decision.
If the problem was viral, no meds were going to help, you did the best you could.
RIP Little DG.
