Random Bleeding?

Nobody panic, this is not about my fish.

My friend had a juli-cory cat and it has been fine for months. Well, yesterday it apparently began to act strange, and today it was just laying on its side, evidently dying. She asked me to come look at it, and it appeared to be internally hemorrhaging near the liver/heart. There was no blood exiting the body, but the bleeding was clearly visible within the body.

What could have caused this? There were no changes in water parameters, nothing fell over, no changes with the filter... could it have simply been a lurking disease?

Hi Hooxeii.

It could be so many options that could have caused this.

Firstly, what test kit is your friend using? The strips or the liquid type. As said by some members, test strips and be unreliable and never precise. Some internal bleedings are caused by high ammonia which clots the blood in certain parts of the fish.

What other fish are in the tank? It could have been caused by a fight and the cory could've been injured.
