Yes big water changes and also different temps at water change time can help trigger spawning, however with kribs you really shouldn't need to do this, they should spawn on their own if you feed them well and keep them in clean water. I don't agree but lots of people will tell you doing a big water change say 50-60% if you normally do 10-15% is actually bad for your tank. They will say you should build up to a big change, again I don't agree but many people do so something to think about.
Part of your problem may be the size of the tank. A 12gal tank with the krib pair and a few other fish plus a cory may cause problems with trying to get them to spawn. Another thing to think about although the kribs should be able to protect their eggs once layed, cory's are great for finding and eating eggs after lights out.
