Red worms hanging out of my fish

Hi bad news! I think my Bolivian Ram has worms. There are redish threadlike things hanging out of his abdomen. Should I run to the LFS and buy some Jungle parasite clear or something like that? I've never treated my tank with meds before. I need advice please...
Thanks

In all seriousness, are you sure its just not the poop? Maybe some of the dyes in the food persisted. Sometimes fish get stringy poo if they dont get enough veggies in their diet.

Hi, Yes it looks and seems just like the Camallanus worms. I will start reading your threads. Any conclusions while I am reading the threads please let me know with your experience exactly what you would do. Thank you

Oh ! I see how horrible. The worst thing is, is that today I cleaned my Bolivian tank first and then the 55g. If I've just spread this to my Gymnos I will be beyond upset. I have no idea how to proceed from here knowing how hopeless it is to treat the worms and the risk of contaminating my other tank...

Okay I found this post online where someone used fenbendazole which worked well and quickly. I think it is a goat/dog worm medicine. Not sure I will be able to find it...

I hate that you're facing Camallanus worms.
In one of the links given above, I think fenbendazole is mentioned.
If I remember correctly, the OP was from Canada and couldn't get it. I think it also mentions it might be available from a vet by presciption.

Best of luck.

Here is my thread on them.
Camallanus Worms

Luckily, I was able to treat them before I lost more. Good luck, really, I would not wish these buggers on anyone.

Bad news. i lost the Ram and it looks like one Kuhli Loach is struggling. Hard to tell with them but I don't have high hopes.

Hello Kacie. DrsFosterSmith.com (there is a link at the top of this page) carries Fenbendozole. It's also known as "panacur".

Camallanus Worms: An Aquariasts Worst Nightmare

Please note I've never used this product nor had the problems you are currently experiencing. The article "An Aquarists Worst Nightmare" suggests the Panacur as well. Please keep us posted.
Best wishes.
Ken
