Mother's Betta Has Ich

My mother's betta has ICH. It's in a bowl (we're working getting her to change that).

I've offered to bring him here for two weeks, so I can set him up in a heated, filtered quarantine tank, but I'm not sure if she'll let me.

If she doesn't let me bring him here, what ich medications are safe for bettas in bowls? I've never used ich medication. I always raise the temp and vacuum the substrate.

EDIT: He's coming here with me for two weeks. Will he be okay in a 20 high? Or should I get a breeder net for him. I'll be using garlic juice to up his immune system, stress coat, and the heater.

That's what I was thinking, too. He's in a breeder net in the 20g. We just got home with him.

It's not ich. I think it's fin rot. How do I know the difference between fin rot and a fungal infection? My bettas don't have these issues, so I'm new at this.

He's two years old (maybe closer to 2 1/2). I brought him home and put him in a cycled (I used a filter from another tank), heated, filtered aquarium. I've given him garlic juice and stress coat. I don't want to give him any medications unless we know for sure he needs it.

Before I got him here, my mother had given him betta fix for 7 days. I just found out about his problems today.

Any advice you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated!

Hey BB, glad he's home with you. Are you able to post pictures of the little guy? Fin rot is usually like a black outline on his fins. On some advanced cases it is curled and also black. Pristine water, stress coat and garlic guard should help him heal. His fins should grow back into health in about 3 months... Ive had this happen to me once, and all healed well...

I'll try to get some pics of him tomorrow

I was thinking fin shredding was fin rot, so I'm glad you brought that up, Tony.

In my "nutritional arsenal", I also have spiriluna, brine shrimp, and bloodworms. I plan on giving him some bloodworms tomorrow dipped in garlic juice, but I wasn't sure if the spiriluna would help, too.

I'm no trying to turn him into a "cause", but it's important to me that he pull through and get back to his wonderful self. If I can do it without meds, I can show how important a cycled filtered, heated tank is for a betta and maybe make sure when he does heal, he has a better home to return to.

Also, I don't know if this will help determine what is going on with him, but he has a tumor. It's gotten smaller than it used to be. I don't know if she used meds for that or how it shrunk, but if that information helps, I wanted to make everyone aware of it.

tumor... what does it looks like? where is it located? I havent heard of tumors on Bettas before... i have seen them on goldies though

Also, maybe he could have been bored in the bowl and and started nipping his own fins (shredding could be nipping) and the water condition LED him into getting fin rot

It's a lump where we'd consider in front of his tummy. I just went to check on him. He's resting at the bottom of the breeder net. I'm very glad I put him in that. I don't think he could get to the top of the tank if he wasn't in the net.

It definitely could be. Once I get some pics of him, maybe we can figure out exactly what's wrong and fix it. He is a little cutie, though. He's gonna steal my heart before we get him fixed, I just know it.
