Neon Tetra

I've had my Neons for awhile now. I lost two some time ago, but I've just noticed another which is now sick. Its red part has gone very pale, and it is continually making an uncontrolled nodding motion.
I'm going to try and remove it in case it has something contagious, but would like to identify what it could be if anyone is familiar with these symptoms.

Hello Life! Sorry to hear that your Neon is ill. Here is a link to neon tetra disease. The discoloration of the fish is one symptom of this disease.

There is also a disease called "False Neon Tetra Disease". If you'll do a "search" you'll find information on it as well.
Best wishes!

Thanks Ken. I've got it in the net now. On closer inspection, it's backbone is deformed. I worry about things like Tuberculosis, and I'm not going to take any chances with it unfortunately. It was that nodding I had not seen before.

Hey Life. I don't blame you for being cautious. I'm not sure what you mean by nodding. Can you elaborate on it a bit more please.

Very much a jerking vertical movement, a bit like Parkinsons. Has to be something with the nervous system I guess. I have it in a container now, and is not moving much. It was too easy to catch - the others got out of the way.

hmmmm it doesn't sound good does it? Wish I could help you more Life. Let's see what other members have to say. Hope the family are all doing well! Are you working or playing? I know you couldn't be at work since you banned yourself from signing on while working.

So sorry your neons are going through this. I hope the disease hasn't spread to your other fishies. Keep us updated.

@Ken Just wondering though, can this disease affect Rummynose tetras as well? Because I have a rummynose that has one of the symptoms of this disease, losing its coloration and very thin body, like it's never been eating. I managed to put it in a small container and it was easy to catch, just like Life's.
