I am really having a hard time with my tanks right now and I don't know what is causing the trouble...
The mysterious deaths started about a month ago in my 55g tank: 2 bloodfins, 2 glowfish and our beloved balloon belly molly Big Daddy
Then the troubles spread to my 30g "zen garden" tank, as I have a
neon tetra with "whirling" disease who is valiently, and very sadly, still clinging to life...and my favorite fish of them all, Sunburst the platy (avatar) who is emaciated and not doing well.
Over the weekend, my daughter lost her lyre-tail guppy Rainbowfish, from her 20g tank and last night we found one of her African Dwarf Frogs, Kermit, dead! He was living with 3 other ADF in a 10g
It has truly been a nightmare...to the point where I am afraid to do a head count each morning and evening. The only tanks that have been stable are my 10g "fry" tank and my 30g Black Moor tank.
All of my water parameters have been good, with the exception of one reading of .25
ammonia in the "zen" tank over the weekend. However, I had been forced to remove quite a bit of filter media from that tank a few days prior to that so I was expecting it.
The only thing that I have noticed lately is that there is a bunch of brown algae in my daughter's 20g tank, and my 30g "zen" tank which I have not seen before, but from what I have read it isn't dangerous. Nonetheless, I am scrubbing it off religiously.
I am doing 50% water changes and very thorough gravel vacs to make sure that I am not missing anything...just don't know what else to do.
This is the largest amount of fish loss that I have ever had...and that is saying a lot since I just started fishkeeping in May and I was clueless about cycling and everything else back then!
If anyone has any thoughts about what I might be missing it would be greatly appreciated.
