OH GOD! Day one and already having problems.

Oh almighty lord, am I doomed with fish death for my whole life? Why have you bestoued this kind of punishment apon me? Why hath I deserve this punishment... Well after observing a Glow-lite tetra it appears to have a fungal infection, and inflamed gill disease. Now the fungus to another Glow-lite Tetra. WHY ME? WHY ME! . A neighbor across from the street from me has a 55 gallon tank without a heater, he doesn't aclimate fish, he's overstocked, and his tankmates are way to agressive yet his fish are as healthy as anything. Hmph .

Don't you just hate when the person who never follows the rules makes out in the end? Good luck with all of your fish!

Yes, this is my newly cycled tank with the betta and danios. No I didn't test the pH the LFS tests it for your when they fill the bag up. It was 7.2. So the pH difference was 7.2-6.4 so I acclimated them with the the floating bag method for an hour and a half.
I understand I started this tank out stupid, cycling with a betta and 2 danios. Now I'm stuck because my dad won't let me get a bigger tank, or pretty much anything more for the tank besides food and filter media . Ugh...

aww you are in a pickle...well first if you trust your LFS and their readings, thats good....I personally dont as mine use test strips and we know how reliable those are...floating the bag method means what? did you put your tank water in there every few mins? thats a huge difference in ph so sounds like it could be something to do with that...or if the betta is stressing them out majorly, that could be it also...dont be hard on yourself about the start of the tank as we all have been there ...but, im not sure why you added more tho if the betta and danios were getting along as you cant get another tank for just in case issues?

Oh wait sorry shawnie I was reading this thread all wrong. I didn't get any new fish. I sadly stocked it before It before it even cycled. I'm such an idiot...

well in that case, its probably the lasting effects of the cycling process thats giving them issues....glo's are sensitve babies and the added stress of the betta in there with them is probably not good so when did you float the bag and get the glo's that had such a drastic change in ph? you got me confused now ...

I got them before the cycle ... I floated the bag fo an hour and a half and added water every 15 minutes.

that was awhile ago tho....the signs now are probably them going through ammonia/nitrites...if you cant buy another tank, as that betta im sure isnt playing nice with them, can you get a divider ? and maybe some vita chem to help them feel better ?

So sorry for your problems....you are doing fine and learning These things have happened to all of us.

The biggest thing to do, (I think we all struggle with it)....is learn patience....when you want fish and/or are setting up your tank.

I always make myself wait a minimum of one week before I add fish, even though technically everything says it is cycled. I rarely add more fish until I know the tank is established...as in plants growing, original fish at optimum colors, swimming, and healthy, etc and of course all water parameters stable for way more than a week or two!

Actually it's a leopard danio that's chasing them all around. The Betta does his own thing. He has never chased any other fish then the leopard danio.

bettas do amazing things when we arent watching..and ill betcha he tries to catch them for food whenever he can....they are colorful and fast movers which is very enticing to bettas...but the danio doesnt surprise me either ...they are more of a schooling type fish and he just needs friends ..but of course theres no more room

Exactly what I said to my dad. But, as usuall he doesn't care . I have enough room in my room for a 55 gallon. But of course he finds some excuse so I cant...

So what medicines should I use to get rid of these stupid diseases

I dont think its a disease at all...i think its the effects of going through the cycle and stress from your tank mates.....if you medicate that tank, the other fish might not make it and you will kill your cycle...if you feel the need to medicate, you gotta get another tank so you dont loose your cycle and all the fish....the glo's in with a chasing danio and betta, dont stand a chance even with meds im sorry

Well... I guess... If the betta survives I'll just put a divider so i can put another one.
