betta fin rot??

okay i noticed that BB (blackbeard) looks like he might have fin rot today. i was transferring from the 3 gallon to the 10 gallon divided tank. now the old tank 3 gallon i had done a rescaping off last week and then noticed an algae spike (major) last night and then noticed today that the temp was way higher. i could feel it. well i was going to transfer him anyway and just decided to do it today because i did not want to boil him with heater being malfuctioning. and realized that the gravel from the rescape might be the problem from the algae growth.... it was outside in a container and i rinsed it, but apparently not well enought.

i saw on his fin on his tail is an area that is white and almost looks burned? he always likes to sit beside the filter and heater..always liked that spot. he has been listless and sitts at surface now. (he has always been well.....a little persnickady..to say that least...he has a major attitude..always has) but i have never had to treat for this before. i have had him over a year and no problems...... so i know my last experience with medications was bad, bad, bad, bad ...........did i say bad? that was with a community tank and ICH...... until i learned about salt treatment.

so i come to my fishlorians............what to do he is in a 10 gallon cycled tank. water is clean, clean, clean. i did add a tiny bit of aquarium salt but that is it......

oh no!! well could he have been snipped by the filter intake? that happens allot with bettas....could he be a tail biter? I wouldnt medicate at all..bettas can heal up very well with just daily partial water changes and some stress coat for 2 weeks....if the tank parimeters are on track, id do that for now and put some filter floss or sponge over the intake valve....is he with other fish? keep a very close eye on his behavoir as bettas and salt dont usually mix well

no other fish with him. i just divided the 10 gallon so that him and pez have more room. the intake is at the bottom of the tank, and he sits at top of tank. i am begining to think that old tank mite be the culprit. i also noticed today when tearing it down that the box connected to the filter had some type of white stuff coming out of it.....like a leak of something.....it was an eclispe 3 gallon with filter and hood and light attached. i always thought the light got a little to hot so i would keep lights off more. but he could have had this before and i just didnt noticed.......like i said...he is mr. attitude..and gets very very upset when i am in his tank...... i will watch him and get some stress coat.... he is still eating.....he always does....little piggy IMO... lol.....okay i hope it doenst get worse,.....

I hope he gets better. I have been dealing with finrot with some of my bettas as well. Daily WC's and stress coat is proving to be much more effective than the meds that I tried. Good luck with your boy!
