Dying fish

Tank is 125 G, (x2 70 gallon Aqua Clear filters) been cycled over a year, transferred a bunch of fish from the old 55 G because I wanted to add more fish & all has been fine for a year. Lately, over the last two weeks, we have had an enormous amount of unexplained deaths. I do regular 25% water changes and clean the gravel and rinse the sponges and media with old tank water. Tested the water and it's fine. Temp 78, pH 7.4, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, Nitrates 10, GH & KH are also okay. Only products I use are Seachem Prime, Tetra Easy Balance and API Stress Coat. Haven't added new fish.

I have had 1 of 6 zebra danios get acute dropsy over night which I had to euthanize since he also had a red sore on his side and was just beyond repair.

The only powder blue dwarf gourami I had hovered at the top for a day, looked a little bloated and was dead in the morning.

One of 2 tuxedo platies I had just inexplicably was dead in a plastic plant one morning, no outward signs of distress.

Six of 13 neon tetras have dropped like flies with no outward signs.

One of 4 schwartzi cories floated to the top with a bright red belly.

I fished out one of 5 angelfish, 1 of 6 orange wag platies dead this morning, and 1 of 2 yucatan mollies, again, no sign of distress.

I also fished out one of two platinum mollies, she has a bright red mouth with white frayed fins. I did put her in her own tank with formalin and fura ms.

I also have 4 clown loaches that seemed fine, today one has ICH. I am just going to raise the temp for that since they can't really take meds for it. I want to treat the whole tank for whatever bacteria problem is causing these fish to drop like flies but I need to know if furazolidone is safe for the tetras and the loaches.

I'm sorry you are losing your fish. It sounds like you are doing everything right. I'm not sure about the med you mentioned but hopefully someone who does will be along soon. I would do a major water change while waiting for further advice. I do about 50% each week. It's weird that all the fish that have died have had suck different symptoms.

Sorry to hear about your fish loss AquaMom. I wish I knew what the problem is. Any air fresheners being sprayed around the tank or in the tank room? (just guessing here)
Keep us posted.

That's what I was thinking too Ken. Some type of accidental poisoning. That's why I suggested a big water change. I hope the others are doing better.

wow, so sorry about your fish loss. Unexplained fish deaths are the worst, because we feel helpless and unsure what to do.

Since this has come on within the past two weeks, try to think if you've done anything different.

Have you bought any new food? could it possibly be spoiled food ?

Have you replaced any decor? added any new rock or driftwood?

Do you remember opening any new bottle of Prime, or any other product within the past couple weeks?

Have you painted your home or done any renovation work recently, which could've kicked up dust and/or fumes of any kind?
