What happened to her fin??

I can't seem to catch a break with these fish!

I came home from work and found my favorite fish, Sunburst, with a slice missing out of her tail!

I have no idea what happened to her, but it was fine this morning! Don't think it is fin rot or anything like that, but I can't figure out what might have happened!

Could another fish do that to her? Or a decoration?

Or even a sly cat paw?

Just wondering what you all think and if you've ever seen a similar thing in your fish?

Shawnie, I would pay good money for those "breaks"!

I was thinking it might be a nip too...I have 2 male platies in the tank with the 4 females and they've been rather...lovey...the past two days or so, chasing the girls around non-stop. I didn't want to move them over to the Bachelor Pad until the round of medication was complete, tonight is the last night of that and off they go!

The NERVE, to nip my favorite fish!

Now she has another slice missing from her tail!!!! It is the same as the first, but at the bottom of her tail.

What is going on here

I figure that I must get those 2 male platies out of the 55g tank but I dont know where to put them!

When I transferred the orange male (the one who had pop-eye and the injury) over to the 30g tank the other night, one of the male guppies in there chased him and tried nipping him, so I got him out of there right away! That male guppy is a big old bully and chases my female platies when he is in the 55g too!

The 3rd tank has the fry, so I am at a loss...ideas?

well something i just learned today is that when fish want to breed the males chase the females around. they may be getting a little fiesty because thats what there trying to do. one of the males may have just gotten a little too excited. thats my best guess. im sure other people will have ideas : )

oooh hmmmm...what a dillema you have, Do you have any breeding nets around? Maybe put the 2 'boys' in the 55 in a net for now? Or the one recovering from his eye so the guppies don't harass him? Just an idea, sometimes being in the net for awhile, it calms the tank down a bit..
BTW..your platies look beautiful!

Thanks Mare, I am a very proud Platy mom and now grand-mom (I love having fry!).

I do have a breeding box, but putting the 2 males in it would be disaster! The blue MM male keeps raising his fin at the orange male and they are VERY competitive. We are going to look at possibly getting ANOTHER tank today. MTS has hit my house BIG TIME!

With the new tank, we would put all the male guppies in there (they are my daughter's so it would be her tank!) and then we'd have the ability to move the 2 male platies back over to the Bachelor Pad with the other male platies! brats!

Its a good thing that Shawnie told me to keep extra filter media in my filters!!!
