Aw Jeez!

I had one of my 29 gallons fully stocked, water parameters rockin', had my angelfish that I've been wanting for a few months.

My angelfish (he's the only new one) introduced ick into my tank. I will be getting a quarantine tank this weekend (now I know why people quarantine).

I would like to handle this without meds so I don't lose my cycle and I don't want to medicate if I don't have to.

I upped my temp from 79 to 83. Is that high enough? And I should keep it up for two weeks, right?

My angelfish died this morning (probably because of the temperature change). I only had him for a week.

Also, I know I need to vacuum the substrate to get the spores up.

Is there anything else I need to do? He passed it to 3 of my black phantom tetras and both of my platys in the tank. I want to get rid of the ick before I get another angelfish. I'll be using a different LFS. Their stock seems to be healthier.

Any advice is very much appreciated.

Thanks guys!

Your doing the right thing..... just keep the temp. up and vacum the gravel and change the water often.

oh no im sorry you lost him did he have ICH signs when you got him? ich is like the common cold in humans ...the virus is always around but it takes stress, weaker fish, overcrowded conditions, or some other stressful issue to bring it out....the temps need to be at least 84-85 for two weeks, to kill the ich..the rest you are doing is fine...adding extra airation is a must as warmer water contains less oxygen...once you can see ich with the nekid eye, QT isnt necessary as the entire tank is infected..usually just the weaker more stressed fish get it...goodluck with everyone else in the tank!!!

He seemed healthy when I got him, but I'm not that familiar with ich. The only reason I know how to treat it without meds is this wonderful forum.

What are the signs of ich besides the grainy salty looking white stuff?

The good news is both of the platys seemed to have kicked it off already. The black phantom tetras are still showing it pretty bad. My cories (even my 2 year old grumpy old man cory) are still clean, as is my bolivian ram.

The really good news about the tank is it has that air bubble thing that makes bubbles come up. I'm not sure what it's called. It came with the tank.
