Worms in my fish, help!

Today my swordtail died, it looked healthy so I was very shocked. When I looked closly , I noticed white worm coming out of it's top fin. OMG, I'm so scared, what the heck is that? How do I treat it? Can people get them too? I'm so scared please help me!

I have planted tank, so I have to be carful with treatments not to kill the plants too...

Thank you for any help!

Sounds like it may be anchor worm. People do not get them - they die if they are out of the water. They have to be removed. Use a pair of tweezers and grasp the worm as close to the body of the fish as you can. Pull gently at a slight angle. You should feel a little pop when the worm releases from the fish. Treat with an antibiotic to keep the wounds from getting infected. Depending on what type of fish you have, salt baths can help to draw out immature anchor worms.

Here is a link on another anchorworm thread Stuck Fish[anchor worm?]

and one on the salt dip/bath instructions Question on Meds Please!!!!

If you can post pics of the critters, it would be helpful.

Thank you so much, I'm really happy to know that ppl don't get them, hehe.
So far I haven't noticed any other fish being sick. I got medication called Parazin, really hope it helps.
