Food pellet stuck in goldie mouth

Hi guys. Didn't know where to post this..... but hope someone here can help.

I fed my goldie some pellets last night, and one is stuck in her mouth. I was told by my fishkeeper friends to leave it alone, it'll work it's way out---- so, of course it didn't. ! I can see it's still stuck, she's not acting herself, and it appears she's trying to dislodge it. An air bubble comes out of her mouth every once in a while, so I need to get this out.

Since I've never done this before, I'm a tad anxious, to say the least.

Anyone around to give a suggestion ? Thanks in advance.

if you try to remove it you must be very careful that you don't dislocate or break the jaw. I would think that it would dissolve after a while. As long as the fish can still breath ( and it can or it would of died over night) I think that I would leave it for a while longer and see if the water will soften it to the point the fish can manage to get rid of it.

How far in it's mouth is it? I've had to dislodge gravel from a goldies mouth twice.

Fishes-for-me, that's what I was thinking too... and that's what 2 friends told me. But it doesn't seem to have done that yet. I fed her some mushy pea, and she ate it...so it's not inhibiting her food intake, although she's not as active as she usually is, so it does appear to be bothering her.

Lucy, I'm not sure, it looks like it's right there, maybe sideways in her mouth. I can only get a glimpse of it when she's still enough for me to see. Since it's food, it should dissolve right? I'm leary of netting this fish and handling her, being she's the new fish, fairly skittish, and just got over being treated for ICH. I really don't want to stress her needlessly.

I agree, I think it'll desolve or at least get small enough to dislodge it's self.
The gravel kind of plugged up the goldie's mouths, I had to pop them out with a tooth pick....different situation though.

that's scary Lucy, I read about that happening. And what's ironic, is that I have a bag of pool filter sand in the trunk of my car that I bought yesterday, for just that reason. Then this happens, with food. And it's definitely a pellet. Last nite she managed to spit it out halfway ..... then sucked it right back in I feel bad, I obviously didn't soak them long enough before I put them in the tank. But am suprised it hasn't dissolved yet.

always sdomething to worry about....

Sad to hear about your goldie trauma Are you sure it's food and not a pebble? It seems like it should have dissolved by now. I've had that happen also and it scared me a bit but luckily it worked its way out on its own. Best of luck and I hope she spits up soon! Keep us posted.

thanks aquarist48. Yep, it's definitely food. When I first noticed something was wrong, I watched her for like an hour. She was struggling with it in her mouth, then managed to spit it halfway out.... and immediately sucked it back in... grrrr. So I assume it's the same pellet stuck in there !

I'm keeping an eye on her.

thanks everyone!
