strange behavior

I have a 125 gallon freshwater community with 7 gold dust mollies, 4 blue paradise, 4 swordtails, 1 angel and 1 pleco.
My blue paradise are currently fighting over the plecos algae wafer (nothing unusual) but they all keep swimming to the surface to get what appears to be a gulp of air, then they dive straight back to the bottom for about a minute, then they come right back up for another gulp over and over. They are the only fish that are doing this, none of them appear in duress and are all acting normal.
My water temp is 79F
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 20

Any ideas?

Your Blue Paradise fish are labyrinth fish so it is not unusual for them to got to the surface for a gulp of air.

Do you happen to know the sexes of them? I ask because even though they are in a 125g tank, having more than one male can lead to some fierce battles due to their territorial aggression. They are often likened to male betta splendens in that regards.

Also, if you can get that Nitrate reading to less than 10ppm, that will help out all your fish even more. How often are your water changes and by how much? Also, does the tank have any plants and are they live ones?

Two males two females. They get along pretty decently, but I'll be sure to keep an eye on them. There was supposed to be 1 male and 3 females but I'm pretty sure I have 2 males.

I do 25% water changes weekly and vacuum the gravel when I do.

I have 1 lone live bamboo plant in the tank, the rest are fake. Someone told me that bamboo will die if fully submerged, but my LFS said it would do fine, so far it's been in there 5 months and looks as nice as the day I bought it.

Looks like all is good then - kudos

As for the bamboo plant, yes it will slowly die off if fully submerged but if some of it is sticking out at the the water surface it'll do great. Good thing about it is that while it is alive it will help soak up Nitrates. Once it starts to rot at it's base is when you know it is on it's way out.
