Alien Parasite

I had an oto die overnight I presume. When I awoke the tank light was on and the fish was on his back, on the substrate at the edge of the tank. I had breakfast and was about to remove the poor dead creature when I noticed a worm exiting the throat area. I quickly removed the fish and put it in a med. bottle, the worm finished exiting. The worm was flat, off-white, and about 4 to 6 mm long. A little back story. I bought the fish Fri. this happened Sun. morning. The fish shop said they had had it for about a month before I bought it. Anybody ever heard of this? Thanks for any info.

sounds like a flatworm? thought it was a fluke but I believe they attach to the gills, it sounds like this was in his digestive tract. I'd google 'fish flatworms' or similar and see what you find. He likely had the condition for quite some time.

I'm guessing anchor worms. Hard to say without a pic.
