highly resistant ich i seem to have?

I have a 20 gallon with three zebra danios and a 2 inch pleco, here's my problem. I had 5 tiger barbs and a red tailed shark to but they all got ICH and died, now i saw the ich when it furst appeared and started treating it with half doses of jungle labs ick clear tabs which seemed to do absolutley nothing the ich just got worse, i treated with that for a week straight, 25% changes every day. so after that i figured i would try API super ick cure, I have given them 2 full doses, so 4 days worth and still no improvement, my pleco is covered in spots still however the danios have somehow managed to avoid the ich all together and are fine. So as a last resort i have jacked the temp up to 86 degrees and added 4 tablespoons of salt... if this doesnt work what else is there to try? all i can think of is removing the fish and water and filling it wish tap water to kill anything in there and let that sit for a week then de chlorinate and start over.

i dont remember exactly how much salt to treat ich but doesnt box have instructions?
If need to dose more salt, dissove in water and dose gradually. Since Ich is very common disease, I used to keep either 100 or 250 tabs container of CLOUT by Aquarium Products which I found, yielded best results with Ich than other products on the market but dont chnage the med now!!!
Give it some time and make sure to have steady concentration of med all times (add proportionate amt of med when pwc is performed unless directions instructs otherwise).

Hope this helped a bit and wish you luck!
Dont forget to have extra aeration!

Another med you can try which is totally different ( therefore maybe not resistant) is coppersafe. It kills ich and you only need to dose the tank one time ( it lasts a month ) and replace what is taken out by pwc. Before trying a new med tho you would have to add carbon and do pwc's to make sure that you have removed all of the old meds. I have used coppersafe for ich...velvet and gyrodactylus and have great luck with it....and have not lost a fish to it either...good luck.

Have you boosted your heater to 84 degrees? If not, do it and leave it there for 2 weeks. ICH cannot survie in water that warm and should not have any bad effects on your fish. Too, you may want to increase the oxygen levels by adding an air stone. After 2 weeks vacuum your tank well. Spores fall off the fish and into the gravel. Sorry to hear you're having problems and fish loss. Good luck. Forget the ICH chems is my suggestion. Some of them have even been known to cause cancer in the state of California...(that is what some say on the bottle LOL)

I don't know how well danios and plecos tolerate salt. You would have to make sure they are not stressed by the amount you add. But with guppies, I was using up to 8 tbs/10 gallons, and that worked well.

Here are some useful links on salt treatment:

It's been a few days since i heated the tank to 85 degrees and added the salt and finally my one remaining sick fish (pleco) is showing less spots, about 1/2 as many as yesterday so i guess that is a positive, I will give it one more dose of med. and keep the temperature and salt where they are for 4-5 more days and see how it goes... now only if he can survive the full doses of salt and med. i have been giving, but i have a funny feeling he will he seem's to be a tough fish he has not shown any symptoms of sickness other than the spots and has continued to eat his algae saucers and is as active if not more than when i got him.

I had a very resistant strain in my 20 gal., I unfortunatly lost the entire tank. I hope you have better luck than I did.
