Corycat with clamped fins...help!

Hi guys. It's me....again. lol
Well, I have an albino corycat that I just moved into quarentine. His fins are clamped and I just noticed that he has a few little red dots on his side. He hasn't eaten and just sits around most of the time. Water params....ammonia 0ppm, nitrite 0ppm and nitrate 10ppm. I have some melafix, pimafix, fungus clear and parasite clear. Would any of these work for whatever is wrong with him? Thanks!

poor guy can you get a picture of him? when you say red dots, can you describe more what they look like? are they raised at all? about how large are they?

right now, i'd go ahead and do a 50% water change with some stress coat if you have it. hold off on the meds for just a little while until we can give you a more definitive answer

EDIT: just saw that you moved him into QT, what is your QT set up like?

QT is a five gallon cycled tank with filter and airstone. Water params are same as the other tank. I did a water change before I put him in there with stress coat. The red dots aren't raised. They look more like under the skin....really tiny like a pinhead and only a couple of them.

I just noticed his little whiskers are looking a bit battered too. It's hard to say if his colour is funny too since he is an albino. I don't think I can get a pic. He's sort of at the back of the tank and you can only see the red dots if you look really close. I'm starting to wonder if they were always there.

I do not recall clamped fins on Corys. Possibly tattered fins/shortened barbels? i've seen clamped fin mostly in livebearers, angels, tetras, cyprinids but not corys? Perhaps nothing as you've said. How about pH of water that cory was exposed to? Also wondering if you have more than one albino cory for comparison?

I have 1 albino and 2 pepper corries in that tank and also 4 albinos in my big tank. This guy looks different. The top fin and his tail is definitely clamped not tattered at all. The barbels are shortened though. The ph is 7.6 and everyone else in the tank is fine. I posted about the ph and everyone said that fish will acclimate to higher ph. All 3 of my tank have the same ph since that is the ph of my tapwater.

Although have kept corys at your pH but most of the corys did far better and/or lasted longer in pH of 7 or slighly acidic as is in their natural biotopes including farm raised and wild ones. I tend to have less complications and dieseases and unexplainable casulties when kept water close to their natural conditions.
If acclimate 100 corys to hard and alkaline water and another 100 to ph of 6.8, i definitely will have less losses/complications in slightly acidic water. Believe me when I tell you since I have ran tested with many different species in great number ONLY to come to conclusion that the fish are better off in conditions that their physiologial/anatomical needs evolved to or at least close to it.
There are no set pH for any fish as their natural biotope is not stable at one particular pH. But it would not swing too much in their natural biotope either. Extreme pH can irritate very sensitive gill tissues and when irritated/inflammed, can not properly excrete ammonia thru gills which will accumulate in blood, possibly causing internal organ/tissues damages which can lead to internal bleeding, etc, etc...I am not telling you to change the pH or not but just want to share my experiences and thoughts.
If affected cory is in q/t, you can always add small amt of peat moss to bring pH down gradually to see if it helps. Piece of driftwood would do also. Dont shift too much at once and when reached desired level, remove them.

Even if your tap is at pH of 7.6, should see drop in pH as time goes by unless your tap has high mineral contents.

As far as, clamped fin goes, any decision as to what meds? How about internal bleeding, that is if internal bleeding?

I have no idea what meds to give him. I tried reading up on clamped fins and I couldn't really find anything that helped me with what I should do. If anyone has any ideas that wold be great.
How would the ph slowly go down on its own if I do water changes once a week?

Would nitrate go too high if pwc done every other weeks, only max of 30% at each pwc?
Or adding driftwood to tank? We just dont know if suffering from exposure to higher pH!

As far as med, I used to use Folmaldhyde/Malachite Green combo med (Formalite I; wonder drug; by Aquatronics but no longer avail) but Aquarium Products Quick Cure has same ingredient, I believe.
Make sure fish is free of any open wound, DO NOT USE ANY MED WITH FORLMALDEHYDE and/or Malachite Green on OPEN WOUND..

But before using that med, how about RED BLOTCHES/SPOTS? I think it should be addressed first before clamped fin since internal bleeding, if it is, can be more fatal than clamped fins.

On internal bleeding, used to use Kanamyacin (Kanacyn by Aquatronics but no longer avail) I do not know what to recommend unless you can obtain Kanamyacin by other possible mfr.

In case, clamped fin develops with whitish clumps on their fin/tail, can add Amphicillin (Amphillex by Aquatronics but no longer avail) but may be other Co mfr.

Its shame that Aquatronics pulled their products off the market. I believe it is due to fact that most LFS did not know how to diagnose and advice proper/specific treatments since Aquatronics is more specific rather than combo of med and Aquatronics were more costly. Nevertheless, I found most Aquatronics med were better choice by far than other brands.
Always kept just about most meds made by Aquatronics for emergencies, even had confidence on expired Med over other brands.

If can not find Kanamyacin or Amphicillin, how about either Maracyn or Maracyn II but NOT both at the same time.
I used to mix Formalite I with Amphicillin when needed (severe case of clamped fin with bacterial infection of fins/tail) w/o any adverse results but never have done it with Maracyn/Maracyn II so I do not know if any interaction b/n them will take place. Thus would recommend Antibiotics first (Maracyn or Maracyn II but not both) if you suspect internal bleeding. When fish recovers but still have clamped fin/tail, then treat with Quick Cure. Of course, few small pwc/change carbon or add new carbon and remove before adding Quick Cure.

Hope this helped a bit.
