Dear All,
i recently got a new 6 x 2 x 2 foot long tank and set it up with by introduction the old medium from the filters in my other aquariums...it ran fine for 3 months...
the readings from the aquarium right now are:
ammonia :0
nitrite:0
nitrate:5

however heres the problem, i recently added a couple of tiger barbs to the tank and the stupid ICH broke out....i had been treating the tank with minute salt and raising the temp to 30C...the spots seem to have disappeared..i had combined gravel vacumming at every water change aswell...

however the problem is that my giant gourami (only 5 inch long) has stopped eating...

not been eating since the last 3 days....the fins seem to have some sort of tears on them...though not severe...what can i do to help

I would do a big water change with some stress coat to get the salt out..gourami's dont tolerate salt very well and he could be effected by that..and his fin tears could be from the tiger barbs as they are huge fin nippers if arent in a proper school of 5 or more...do you have a QT tank the gourami can go into to heal up?

i took the tiger barbs back to the LFS as soon as the ich broke out...

sorry for not highlighting the current stock but here it is:

4 Giant Danios
1 Giant Gourami
1 Zebra Danio

so i dont think it even comes close to being over stocked...furthermore, i dont have a QT..
can i treat the fish with some ampicillin?! ive heard fins are generally affected by bacteria.

I would start with the huge water change...is there salt still in there? fin damage can be cured without meds and just prestine water changes and stress coat

just a precautionary measure i took!

yeah i have been changing 20% water every day since the last 4 days...so im pretty sure that might not be an issue...the giant gourami is moving around ok its just that its no longer interested in eating anything

my poor gourami died!

all four giant danios are doing gr8 and the zebra seems to be doing gr8 aswell....

are any of your other fish showing any symptoms at all? any fin tears or anything like that?

no none at all..and thats the strangest part..the gourami failed to survive whatever anonymous illness and the rest are fine...

so there's no diagnosis till now of what might have happened...
