lost my two favorite guppies

here it goes,
a couple of days ago I noticed a reddish brown edge on my metallic blue male guppy also there was like some white thin threads on the tail fin.I thought it was fin rot of what i could find out on the website. I never had this before so I rushed out and got a 3g tank and set it up as a hospital tank.I used the water from my 38 g tank. I also bought melafix and put it in accordingly.
The next morning my guppy was dead.
When I observed my other fish I noticed another one was not moving around and just hiding in a corner. I also noticed a clear string of poop that just did not look right.
I moved him to the hospital tank and also found him dead this morning.
All the other fish seem to be fine. It is just a bit frustrating, does anybody know what's going on?
I do weekly water changes. I use the API test kit. I have a 38 g tank for 4 month now.
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 0
pH 7.6
5 guppies
4 cory cats
3 black skirts
4 pristella tetras

i'm sorry you lost your guppies

i agree that it sounds like parasites to me, jungle makes a product called parasite clear that works well. how long have you had the guppies?

Sorry to hear of your loss, I would retest the water parameters, 0 nitrate is a sign of no cycle. If you use the API test kit, shake that #2 nitrate bottle really good. I would quarantine the suspected sick ones. Then treat the quarantine and the aquarium

Hi Jim,
I retested my water and shook the #2 nitrate bottle like crazy. My nitrates are between 5 and 10. All my fish seem to be doing fine, hope it stays that way. As a newbie sometimes it feels a little overwhelming.
thank you for your advice, Nora.

Just hope I was able to give advice that was usable. I am no good at parasite infections. Other members will help you there
