Help?

I have a Ryukin (Bert) who constantly gets what I thought was ICH but upon reading the description of Ich I'm not sure if its the same. Its white and shows up in 2 or 3 spots on the tips of his fins. It grows to be a bit larger but fluffy not hard and then drops off in the tank. The spots disapear for a few days and then reacur.

I've had my tank around 82 for about 2 weeks now and nothing has changed. Unfortunately my heater is turned up all the way and will not heat any more than 82. I really really do not want to medicate as last time I had to recycle my entire tank and this seems to be a reacuring issue.

No QT is available at this time. I change my water once a week at about 50%Only my one goldie is ever effected by this.

Also, Yes I know my tank is overstocked and has cold and tropical mixed. They've been like this since December and only this one Goldie has an issue...

Any advise please?

If it drops off and comes back then it definitely sounds like a parasite. I would suggest using salt to help with that, as well as daily gravel syphoning to get rid of the spores that have fallen off.

I'm sorry your fish is ill.
Your threads have been merged. It's only necessary to start one thread for the same question.

As you pointed out, you have a few stress factors going on in your tank. Overstocked, incompatible tank mates and water temp. Something to keep in mind, when fish have to expel energy to cope with stress factors, it weakens their immune system making it harder for them to fight off illness and disease.
I hope your fish feel better.

Lucy,

I had split my thread because I had not received many replies.

Despite many stress factors only the one fish seems to have an issue. I was hoping someone could clarify if what I described sounded like ich or something else. Everything I've read says ich is hard and crusty. What I have gets fluffy. I was looking for some advise on treatment other than medicating unless that is the only option. This has been going on in my tank for at least two weeks and is a reacurring issue with this perticular fish only.

It doesn't sound like ICH to me. Ich looks like grains of salt all over the body, fins and gills. Hmmmm....I don't know what it is could be a bacteria/fungus infection or Parasite like Pink said. My fish have had the same thing you describe but it doesn't fall off that I have noticed and fungus/bacteria meds took care of it quickly. But I have a q-tine tank, I suggest you get one, you may have to medicate. It can be something simple by using a plastic tub, heater, cheap filter and airstone.

Another thought I had is get a bottle of Stress Coat Plus, do daily water changes to keep the water clean and see how that does
