sick/dying dwarf gourami

Hello, I have been reading several posts regarding sick dwarf gouramis and trying to figure out what is going on with mine. I need a few suggestions. I have had my aquarium for one month. Went through all proper procedures, check water daily, no problems with ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, or pH. I do two 20 - 30% water changes a week. The fish (1 rosy barb, two red eyed tetras, 1 platy and 1 dwarf gourami) eat tetra fish flakes and blood worms. I feed them a pinch every twelve hours. Other than the gourami the other fish are thriving, seem happy...my gourami stopped eating two days ago. I just moved him (?) to a quarantine tank because he is lethargic, floats aimlessly as though dead and sometimes stays at the top of the tank with his lips at the water line. Most of the time I find him hiding somewhere in the plastic plants. I have seen him on his side at the bottom of the tank too. He has no outward signs of illness. Belly looks a bit swollen, feces are long, white and stringy. I put him in a 5 gallon quarantine tank with 1 tsp epsom salt. Any suggestions?? How long do I wait before I try treating him for internal parasites? Did I use too much/too little salt? He won't eat frozen peas. Please help...

Sounds like internal parasites. Jungle Parasite Tank Buddies is a good one, I am using the Fungal one and it works great.

welcome to fishlore!!!!!!! (sorry didnt realize it was your first time posting )im sorry your gourami is sick they are labyrinth fish and need air from the top of the tank..you say your water is fine, but im wondering how you cycled it so fast with fishies? what are the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate reading? as his symptoms sound like ammonia..and they do not tolerate salt so that could be it a further issue . what test kit are you using? the labyrinth fish seem to get hit first if there is an inballance in the cycle ... I wouldnt medicate just yet....it could be something simple as an incomplete cycle or a mini cycle...

Are you using Stress Zyme?

You have 1 Rosy Barb? They are active (10-gal too small) and can be nippy if not kept in schools and are aggressive eatters. They grow to about 4-5" inches. I had a shoal of 5 and I will never get them again unless a Barb tank only. Anyway, They need to be in schools of at least 6 to keep them from being nippy and chasing other fish. So I was wondering if maybe the Barb has been picking on him? Stressed him out and he got sick.

welcome to fishlore

along with the advice above, you can try soaking the piece of pea in garlic guard or garlic juice.

also the red eye tetras along with the rosy barbs need a school of at least 6, but you don't have room for that in your 10 gallon. i'd return the barb and tetras and get three corycats for the bottom instead

If he is lethargic and gasping for air at the top, getting him some stresscoat+, prime, or ammon lock with a water change asap, will hopefully get him on the mend,, you can worry about him eating once he can swim and breath again ...
