| | Fish Helper | Tiger barb very ill. This morning I found one of the larger Tiger barbs on the filter, still breathing and no fin rot or anything, but I've noticed the passed few days that she has not eaten anything and looks very skinny, unlike the rest of the barbs.
I'm trying so hard to keep all of my fish happy and now it seems like she is going to die because she's so weak. I had to put my fish net in there so the flow of the filter doesn't push her around.
My water parameters are still good, and I've been doing water changes every night. Temp is 80F, ammonia-0, nitrite-0, nitrate-5 and pH-7.0.
What am I doing wrong? Why can't I keep my fish happy and healthy ? Please help me.
Here is a picture of Louie (I think he is a she now) from when she was feeling better. |

| | Moderator | I'm sorry your barb isn't feeling well.
If you could update your aquarium info, that would be helpful. Do you still have the same fish?
It might be a good idea to move her to QT so she doesn't get picked on by the other fish.
Did she have any symptoms of being ill? Last edited by Lucy; March 16th, 2009 at 02:43 PM.

Did she have any symptoms of being ill? | Okay, I updated my info. Yes, all are the same fish except for 4 of the barbs in which Louie is one of them. Well, she would sit in the corner away from the other barbs and hasn't been eating either. She looks very skinny. Quote:

It seems like she is so weak that she can't fight the current of the filter. Now she is huddled next to one of the decorations. I've noticed that the two fins by her bum are less in color now too. |

| | Moderator | id put her in a qt tank also or even in a breeder net/box and treat with some garlic guard and vita chem..with water changes.... if he/she is sick and not acting normal, the others will pick up on that and torment it...goodluck! |

I don't have any of that. :-( What if I tried boiled green pees ? I put her in my little qt tank for now...She is just laying at the bottom, dark looking as well. |

| | Moderator | I dont think shes constipated...so peas probably wont do anything being in the qt tank is good tho!! do you have some stress coat? keep her warm and just keep the water clean ...will be saying some fishie prayers! |

Lethargic fish that lose weight is sometimes a symptom of parasites, but I can't be positive. |

| | Moderator | how many barbs do you have? she could have been ousted from the clan and was being picked on.. |

| | Fish Helper | Yes, I will put some Stress Coat plus in there for her. The water temp is at 80F too.
I have 5 barbs at the moment, one of my little barbs Stryper died a few weeks ago. It seems as though her and the other large TB, Bubba used to nudge each other for hierarchy, but I never saw any real combat between them. Neither do I see any wounds or anything....
She is dead now. I don't see any gill movement anymore...
What Am I Doing Wrong? Why Can't I Keep My FIsh Happy And Healthy?
Now I see the one Tb I had from the start, one side of him looks weird. Like the stripes aren't black, they look shiny and aqua in color...He is hiding under the filter. Last edited by wakingupnow; March 16th, 2009 at 04:45 PM.

I use American Pharmaceuticals Incorporated ( API) for ammo, ph and nitrite and my nitrate tester is Nurtrafin by Hagen. They are all liquid test kits. |

| | Fish Helper | Yes, it does look greenish/blueish on the stripes. I can't see it in the non-black sections.
What does this mean though? Does this mean stress or is it just normal? I've never seen this before and I'm still new to fish, so I would really like to know please. |
