Sick Ghost Knife

i came home today and my ghost knife ( 30cm ) has some white cloudy markings on parts of its body
water is basicly clean, it lives with 3 barra, 2 oscars, a big pleco and a cray..
i've had him for 8mths and i've never seen him like it.
he is still eating...
any info would be great?

i've given the tanka small dose of white spot as a small precaution as it cant hurt em.

you can watch him on you tube at the below address befor he got these markings, he's always been active and dosent hide much..

cheers for any info!!!!!!!!

i think its 40gal.....

its 1200mmx450mmx400mm....

yes, i cycle with all of the fish in the tank but i have not done this for about 2-3 weeks.

i dont have any other readings, i do them on the odd occasion but our town water supply is what they have all lived off for over 1yr and they allways read the same and i've never had any probs..

cheers

no, ,more than anything, he will take nips at the cray.... they dont bother eachother, the cray just hangs in his coffey mug..
i awoke today to realise he's actually loosing his skin.. its gotten worse since last night.. and now he's hanging in a different part of the tank..

also, 2 of my barramundi have the same type of thing happening to their eyes..

definately get a test kit...an API liquid master test kit has all you need to test ....and find the ammonia, nitrites, and nitrate reading...you could have a mini cycle going on and they are sensitive with ammonia ...

There are good sites online to get a test kit if your work hours are stopping you from properly taking care of your fish.

You also say 'tap water' with no chemicals. I really hope that you mean tap water with a conditioner - assuming you do have chloramines/chlorine in your tap water.

i've had this tank for about 1yr and have never used chemicals.

not sure whats in the water to tell u the truth...
if anything, i think they put fluride in it, you knowto help your teeth...
a few of my mates have had tanks for yrs, breed chichilids, australian natives and other fish and only use tap water too.
i will look into it and i'll put the test results on this thred after the weekend.

sorry for the late reply,

this is whats in our water

very small amounts of Chlorine The most commonly used disinfectant, is added to remove harmful bacteria and keep water free from water-borne diseases.
Lime (calcium oxide) and Caustic Soday (Sodium Hydroxide) Added to ensure the pH (how acidic or alkaline the water is), is neutral.
Aluminium Is present in water from natural leaching from soil and rocks in the catchment area.
Aluminium sulphate is then added to remove sediments and make it clean and clear. It is then removed by filtration.
Potassium permangate, polymers, activated carbon. May be used in the water purification process under certain circumstances.
The levels of all chemicals are controlled and do not exceed National Health and Medical Research (NHMRC) guidelines.

this was cut and pasted from our water authority website.

the ghost knife is fine and more active than ever!!!

cheers for your help anyways, i will add a treatment for the chlorine with water changes in the future but as i said earlier, my mates have had tanks for years and have never used them and still have some of their origional fish...

cheers again....
