Goldfish on the bottom, not eating, help please!

Hi, I have a 6 year old Oranda goldfish who has been down on the bottom (right side up just resting all day) She won't eat, she can swim-- she gets up when I come over but does one lap arround the tank and then lays down again. She has no obvious signs of illness... I don't see anything on her or anything and her color is fine. I did a partial water change (25%) two days before this started (she's been like this going on day 3 now) I hadn't tested the water before I did it so I don't have any readings from before. I don't know if the change had anything to do with it. I use aqua safe with water changes. I tested the tank before doing another change today--it was nitrate 10ppm Nitrate 0 hardness 50 alkalinity 120 pH 7.3 and did another water change today, probably about 50%. She is the only fish in the tank and has been for about 2 years, I haven't introduced anything new... Any ideas what the problem could be, what should I do? Thanks!

Aww..Poor baby. sounds like your doing everything right. I would just keep the water clean as possiable which it sounds like your doing. Maybe add a couple drops of garlic juice, or garlic guard to help her immune system. Has she had any unusual poop??..White stringy or anything else.

thanks for your reply. I haven't noticed anything with her poop. I'll have to get a hold of some garlic gaurd.

do you have a test kit for ammonia? she could have ammonia poisoning. personally i doubt it since you don't have a nitrite reading and your tank has been set up for so long, but it's possible.

i'm sorry that she's not feeling well

Poor baby. So sorry. I'm sure your quite attached after having her so long and it looks like your taking great care of her. I hope she pulls through..You'll want to wait on some other members responses but maybe it's some kind of internal bacterial infection??..Not sure though.

Welcome to Fish Lore

Really sorry your goldie isn't feeling well. What's her name?
By any chance did you yest your ammonia?

Six years is a good life for a goldfish, it's obvious you've taken good care of her.

Good luck, I hope she feels better soon.

Thanks for all your replies! I just wanted to give you an update!
She seems to be doing well today! Yesterday she ate and then laid down again but today she is up and about and seems back to her usual self. I did try the garlic drops, which may have helped. She also had a unusualy large poo. (LOL sorry if TMI) so I wonder if maybe she was having tummy troubles. Poor Fishy!
I've been giving her fresh peas and freeze-dried shrimp instead of her usual pellets and veggie wafer discs just in case it was a digestive issue. I'm keeping my fingers crossed hopefully she has no more issues.
Ps. I tested ammonia, there was none present, but of course I had done about a 75% waterchange since she started laying down. I tend to doubt it would be that though since the tank has been set up since 2006 and the nitrites were 0 and nitrates were only a 10.
I appreciate all the advice! Nice to meet you all, Glad I joined this site!

Cute name. It sounds like she may have been constipated since things have moved since you gave her peas. They word very well for that sort of tummy problem

I'm really glad she's feeling better, we appreciate the update.
