dwarf gourami has a sore

My DG got a weird thing that looked sort of like a pimple a few weeks back. I put stress coat and put a bit of aquarium salt in with water changes. It seemed to get better. The tip came off leaving a scar that looked like it was healing over. I just noticed today it looks a little sunken in and a bit red. I don't think it's hole in the head but maybe an ulcer. I tried to google different things and the ulcer seemed to fit best. He seems happy as a clam...swimming, eating, picking on his tankmates as usual. I don't have a hospital tank. I'm new at this stuff. I didn't know anything about cycling a tank so he was in there through the whole cycle and I'm sure it took a toll on the poor lil' guy. I did loads of water changes so the levels never got too high. The tank is cycled now...ammonia 0ppm, nitrites 0ppm, nitrates 10ppm. Not sure what I should do and would an ulcer be contagious? I just put some stresscoat in and started with salt again. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I can try to get a picture but he's quite shy except at mealtime. Maybe I'll try to get a pic next time I feed them. I'm pretty sure he didn't cut himself on something because when it first showed up it was more like a bump with a white tip. Now it's sunken in. It looks most like an ulcer out of all the pics I looked at online.

i've been looking around and can't seem to find anything specific for treatment. IMO the best thing you can do is keep up with the water changes maybe go to 10%-15% water changes every other day to keep the water as clean as possible, and keep using the stress coat.

I couldn't find much about it either. I was thinking to try that melafix stuff. What do you guys think?

I'm sorry your fish isn't feeling well.

I don't know much about gourami's but it's not recommended to use melafix on labyrinth fish:

Thanks for the warning! I'm going to google that now and see what I come up with.

Yeah, it's always good to do your own research on something.

Well, there are mixed opinions about melafix and labyrinth fish but I don't want to take any chances. I'll stick to the aquarium salt and PWC and hope for the best. He looks like he feels fine but that could change in a heartbeat. Thanks for taking the time to reply guys!

Hi

Is it a sore on his mouth area? My dwarf gourami has a reddish sore on his mouth so I took a video on my phone and showed it to my local fish expert. He said it is a fungal infection and it affects gouramis more as the have bigger sort of lips and because they go up to the surface more this makes them more prone to this.

I got Interpet Anti-Fungus and Finrot. The way he has cured fish who have had it is to give 15mls on day one 10mls day 2 and 5mls day 3, on day 4 leave and see if improvement if not repeat it. Also make sure your filter is working well as it needs good oxygenation for this medicine aparantly.

He only got first treatment today so I am hoping he will be ok. I did a water change before it. All my other fish are grand though.

Hope your fish gets better

Liz

Hi Liz. No, it isn't on his mouth. It's kinda more like on the side of his head. Did you put him in a separate tank when you medicated? I don't have a hospital tank and I'm afraid to put medication in there with all of them because last time I did that 2 healthy fish died. I hope you little guy gets better too!
