Sick Tiger Barb unable to separate

Just noticed one of my tiger barbs has a white film on one of his sides. Im thinking it might be a fungus. Im also havinh trouble separating him. I dont want ta have to medicate this tank as a have a 5 gal QT ready to go. Any suggestions on how to get him into my net? Thank you.

Sorry your Barb isn't well. I hope he recovers soon.

I like to use plastic cups, I just don't like nets.
You can use the net to guide him towards a large plastic cup, he should swim right in.

Hes also demonstrating some vertical swimming and not really schooling with the others. Does this sound like symptoms of a fungus? Can it affect my other fish if im unable to sepatrate him?

It would be a good idea to separate him. It's hard to say if a fungus would make him swim vertical. It could also be a bacterial infection.
Is it possible to post a pic of him? See if the members can identify the symptoms.
Do you know your readings for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates?

what are your ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate readings? what conditioner do you use? what other fish are in with him? answering some questions will help trying to figure how to treat him. the pic looks more like someone is picking on him but not very sure as the pic is kinda far away...but some daily water changes with some stress coat+ should help with his healing and putting him in a qt tank to heal, will keep him safe from further nipping

Here's how to add a pic in a post:
How Do I: Attach Pictures to my post

I'm sorry, I can't really tell from the picture. Hopefully someone else will have some ideas.

I really struggled to get even those lousy pics, unfortunately im no photogragher. My readings are ammonia-0, nitrite-0,nitrate-5ppm. I use stress coat+ after every weekly 30-40% water change. The photo does show that white area onthe left side of the fish if you look closely its actually not the glare.

I can never get a good pic of my fish either.

One of the problems with trying to diagnose fish is some symptoms can be attributed to a few things.
That's why I mentioned bacterial infec., sometimes it can look like fungus. Along with his vertical swimming has me leaning that way.

were you able to catch him yet? some stress coat+ with the qt tank should make a huge difference...hes probably weak (vertical swimming) and the others are picking on him...in the qt tank you can get a better pic also ....

poor little guy

i'd think about treating with maracyn and maracyn 2, i'm pretty sure that would cover you whether it's fungal or bacterial, and they can be used in conjunction with one another.
