Since your water paramters are fine it could have been an attack. Red Devils are very aggressive fish, how do them usually get on?

Before Medicating you need to find out whats wrong with him. Could you post a pic? Convicts are tough little fish but wouldn't stand a chance if attacked by any of your other fish, espeicially the Red Devil.

Yup, agree that convict is a tough little cooky. As others have suggested, would not medicate yet! Rather isolate him.
Folk! All those clear plastic Mayo jars, save some. Punch some holes, lots holes. you can use it w/ lid as isolation motel (charge the fish for single rate though, lol) inside the tank. Thus no panic until better accomodation can be provided.

It's hard to tell from the pics but his fins look a bit chewed up, are they? If he's been beaten up you'll need to remove him from the tank until he recovers, and then give him plenty of caves to hide in if you choose to put him back in.

You really need to get him out of there, if he hasn't been beaten up already he will be. Fish that show weakness in aggressive Cichlid tanks are usually attacked. Was he ok before you went out?

What choice do you have? I'd put him in there or you are going to loose him. With some Stress Coat if you have it.

It's better than leaving him in there, but you'll probably still need to do water changes to keep the ammonia down. Can you remove some of the filter media from the main tank and add it to the filter? This will help alot.

If he was attacked then he should recover ok in the 30gal, as long as he's not injured too badly. A friend of mine breeds Red Devils and he won't even keep the Male and Female in the same tank except at spawning time, because they're so aggressive.

That can be common when a fish is injured, but it should heal ok. It happened to my Oscar a few weeks ago when he chased a Convict into a cave and got stuck! But he's fine now. It definatly sounds to me like he was attacked. Who is the dominant fish in the tank?

male dempsey/red devil ... they wont back down from each other but every one else will run from both QUICK ..... if i had to guess i would say female dempsey did it .... oscar and devil are peaceful together same side of tank all the time .. male /female dempseys are together all the time .. the dempseys are more agrresive than the red devil.. oscar= most peacefull fish in the tank .... female dempsey and convict have locked up more than once

Yeah, Oscars aren't really very aggressive, mine is in a tank with a Dempsey, 2 Jewels a Blue Acara and Convicts. The only reason he can survive in there is the fact that he's so much bigger than them, if he was the same size they'd kill him! Are there any caves in your tank?

It's a good idea in an aggressive Cichlid tank. The Convict needs a cave that only he can get into, this way he can retreat if he's being picked on. My Convicts are about an inch long, sharing a tank with 3 inch Acara, Jewels and Dempsey, and a 8 inch Oscar, but they do fine because they have caves that the others can't get into if need be.

Sorry to hear!. But surprised though after looking at pics , seemsed injuries werent that bad.
Please have those DIY Isolation Motel handy in case of emergency. Moving injured fish from tank to another can cause more stress than good even with good acclimation. This of course will depends on injuries.
Knowing Convicts, I was so sure he will pull thru.
