I have a 6 gallon tank with two female platies in it. The tank has been set up since July, so it's cycled. I keep the temperature around 76F and do a 30-40%
water change every 5-7 days.
One of my platies has had a single white/off-color scale for a while - as in, a few months. I thought it was odd, but it never changed or became worse.
Then, about a week ago, I realized the spot grew into a sizable patch (not hairy or fungus-like at all, simply coloration). I thought her eyes looked a little cloudy right in the center. I thought she probably had a bacterial infection or something, and I did a dose (5 days) of Maracyn and Maracyn II combined, hoping that would stop whatever it was.
I left the light off for the length of the treatment (I read the meds were light-sensitive and didn't want to stress the fish either), so I didn't get a good look at the fish until today. Now, the sick platy has fin rot on her side fins! The gray patch and her eyes look the same as before.
I am confused and not sure how to proceed. I will definitely first do a water change and put some carbon in to remove the old meds, but what then? The other platy looks very healthy with the exception of a single spot of
ICH, which I would want to medicate as soon as the first platy is starting to look better. Should I do a second round of Maracyn I/II?
I attached a couple of pics, one with flash and one without. The coloring shows up more in the nonflash pic, though it is blurry.
Does anyone know what is going on with my fish? Thanks.
