Hi

I noticed my Rosy Barbs have white tips on their fins and tail. What is the cause of that? Bad Water quality? Also found my two yoyo's dead! I've been havin trouble with ammonia reading bein at .25-.50 this past week. I disturbed my filters and put myself into a mini-cycle. Been doin water changes. Doin a 50% w/c right now!

Thank you

Ammonia .25-.50
nitrite 0
nitrate 0
Temp 78-80

A really sad morning for me to get up and find most of my fish have died. I have remaining 3 Angelfish, Silverdollar, pleco and 7 tetras. 2 danios and a cory that are gonna die real soon. Lost overnight, 2 pictus catfish, 4 rosy barbs, 2 tetras, cory and 1 zebra danio

Signs started out as white tipped fins on the barbs. Did water changes, added stress coat plus for conditioner, only to wake up to a disaster! I didnt see the ones that passed, by boyfriend fished them out before I saw but they had glazed over eyes and almost all their body was covered in a white layer. doesnt look like ICH. Bacteria infection is my guess. I dont have any reliable safe meds to use. All I have on hand right now is PIMAFIX. I dosed, less then it called for to be safe, but I have read info on this medication so I am aware of the possabilities that it may not work and that it puts the bacteria to sleep other then killin it. I am going to head out to my LFS soon, and see what else they have for meds. Any suggestions on what to use, that is if my LFS carries it. I dont want to loose my Angels or Silverdollar.

Thank you

Im so sorry to hear of the mini cycle your tank is going through.
Are you using Prime with your water changes? Your fish as you know are feeling the affects of your high ammonia which is killing them. Doing that 50% water change twice a day instead of once may help your fish asap while you wait to head out to the store. Can you find some Tetra Safe Start to add?
You can double up on your Prime dose as well. All emergency solutions that may help in the interim. I hope you dont loose anymore fish.. its so heartbreaking. The PimaFix as you know most likely has killed off the beneficial bacteria and the number one thing you need to do is get that ammonia level down asap.
Best of luck

My LFS doesnt carry Prime. Nor have I ordered any online. I use stress coat+ and picked up a bottle of Ammo-lock yesterday. I have gotten the ammonia to 0 finally! Now I just sit back and hope for the best!

UPDATE: Today things are lookin postitive! I got some meds in the water now for 24 hrs, doin another dose in 1 1/2 hrs and wait 24 hrs and do a 25% w/c according to the box directions, then dose again. I like this w/c inbetween the 4 doses that I am suppose to do. Usually you just dose with no w/c's until done with treatment. Anyway, ammonia at 0 still, I am happy, I am gonna save my remaining 3 Angelfish, SilverDollar, Gourmai and 7 Tetras. I know the tank has to rebuild the good bacteria colony after treatment, I ordered some PRIME online lastnight and it's on its way to help me with this process. I look forward to seeing how well it really works as everybody says! Thank you!
